How to Send: Letters should be no more than 200 words. Less is better. Ideally, you can reference a specific article in your local paper and respond to it specifically. Be sure to include your name and a daytime phone number on your letter. The paper will call you to verify you are the author before printing the letter.

Letters can be submitted online through most newspaper Web sites or mailed. (MAILED IS PREFERRED) Often, in larger cities, the paper versions get noticed first because of the heavy volume of e-letters sent. Don’t forget your suburban neighborhood papers.
